Social Scientists and the Military - Collaboration Needed?

A U.S. military officer at West Point's Modern War Institute, Jonathan Bate, has wrote an article about the need for the military and academia to work together to enhance our understanding of war. He believes that there is an ongoing need for a program to foster collaboration - similar to the arrangement under the Human Terrain System (HTS). He believes both camps will benefit - the military tapping into a vast pool of intellectual talent while the social scientists get access to raw data pertaining to the military and conflict.
