Rethinking Pakistan

Over the past twelve years our relationship with Pakistan has usually been in the context of "AfPak" - the lumping together of Afghanistan and Pakistan into one complex problem. There are some (see a report by the Council on Foreign Relations) who think we need to change this outlook and separate the two countries in our regional outlook. We are asked to rethink our Pakistan strategy; a revised approach to Pakistan would help the U.S. advance its interests in Asia. (I guess we are supposed to overlook the fact that Pakistan is supporting the Afghan insurgents and providing sanctuary to the Haqqani Network).
