Afghan Refugee Crisis, UNHCR, and the UAE

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is working to alleviate the Afghan refugee problem. The displacement of Afghan refugees is described by the United Nations as the world's largest and longest-standing refugee situation. Since 2002, nearly four million refugees have returned to Afghanistan (many from Pakistan). The United Arab Emirates has been a leading force in the refugee resettlement process.
