The 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) of the Georgia Army National Guard has completed a second tour in Afghanistan. The "Volunteer Brigade" first deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 where they were assigned to Camp Phoenix. They returned in 2014 as part of the Kabul Base Cluster and were involved in the retrograde of men and equipment from bases around Kabul to include Camp Eggers, Camp Phoenix, and Camp Bala Hissar. The 48th IBCT has been replaced by the 2-162 Infantry Battalion of the Oregon Army National Guard. The 2-162nd will be based at the New Kabul Compound (NKC) located adjacent from Massoud Circle and not far from the American Embassy and ISAF compound.
